A local business owner has set up a Facebook group for Penarth residents to offer homes and support to Ukrainian refugees.

Sian Fox, the owner of Foxy's Deli and Café on Victoria Road, started 'Homes and help for Ukrainians – PENARTH' in response to the government's Homes for Ukraine scheme and for people in Penarth to come together, share advice and make connections.

Sian told Nub News: "I really wanted to do something to help as much as I could and by setting up this group, everyone can come together as a town and offer a new start for Ukrainian refugees."

The group also welcomes Penarth residents that are not able to offer a room in their homes but instead can donate supplies and give advice on areas such as schooling and registering with dentists and GPs. "Some people that can't offer a room in their homes, they've come here [Foxy's] and said they can bring in toys for the children," said Sian.

"It would be great if people could offer to take them [refugees] to the hospital, appointments, recommend schools – it's all about doing what we can and offering as much help as possible."

Sian also said a retired lecturer from Russia has also offered his services to host English lessons for the Ukrainian refugees every Friday at Foxy's.

At the time of writing this article, the group had 49 members.
