Penarth's own award winning amateur theatre group, Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS), staged its last play almost two and half years ago but will back in March with a spine chilling production of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Adapted and dramatised by Tim Kelly, the most famous and well loved of all Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mysteries brings Holmes and Watson to the wilds of Dartmoor where Sir Henry Baskerville, heir to a vast fortune, is living in fear of a sinister family curse - The Hound of the Baskervilles, a legendary and terrifying beast whose blood-curdling howl signals death the the Baskerville line.
Why has the beast returned? Is it real or imaginary? And what dark secrets hide in the shadows of Baskerville Hall? Only Sherlock Holmes can stop the beast. But when he and Watson arrive they find more unsettling events and as the hound terrifies the countryside, suspicion falls on all who have connections the the Baskerville estate.
PODS Publicity Officer, Peter Knowles, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be back on stage with our first play in over two years. Any Sherlock Holmes mystery is great entertainment but The Hound of the Baskervilles has to be one of the best."
He continued: "We read lots of plays during and after lockdown to decide which one to perform as our big return to the stage and The Hound of the Baskervilles was the hands down winner. It's full of mystery, suspense, drama and humour. There is something terrifying out on the moor - come with us if you dare!"
The Hound of the Baskervilles is on at the Paget Rooms in Penarth from March 24 until 26 and tickets are available to book online.
