RNLI Penarth were called out twice last night (19 October) in an evening of high tides and daring rescues.

At 18:23, HM Coastguard called RNLI Penarth, RNLI Barry and a rescue helicopter (187) to assist a "person in the water" off Sully Island. RNLI Penarth stood down shortly after launching when it was informed that the person had been recovered.

Just minutes after returning to the boat house (19:55), the boat was called out once again to assist two people cut off by the tide at Lavernock Point.

In what is becoming a routine operation, the team worked with HM Coastguard to locate the two stranded persons and bring them to shore.

The RNLI had issued a high tides warning on 16 October and says walkers should be particularly cautious in the coming days with the highest tides of the year inbound.

To avoid being cut-off by the tide, the RNLI advises the following:

- Check tide times before setting off.

- Let someone know where you're going and when you'll be back.

- In an emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
