Boy who suffered brain injury in assault case is "improving daily"

By Alex Jones 25th Mar 2021

A 16-year-old boy who sustained life-threatening brain injuries during an incident on St David's Crescent in January "continues to improve daily", according to his mother.

Medics performed an emergency craniotomy on Harvey Larter after he was injured in an assault case on Friday 22 January.

He remains in University Hospital of Wales, but his mother, Jo Mathias, is confident that he will make a full recovery.

"He has come a very long way to get to where he is now and continues to improve daily," she told Nub News.

"Further rehab is needed. Harvey is a true warrior and he will be back on top form very soon. Bigger and better than ever!"

Jo has reportedly spent every day by her son's bedside since the accident.

As a result, she has been unable to work and has referred to "every aspect" of the situation as "a nightmare".

Family friend Hayley Ann Lawrence has set up a Facebook fundraiser for the family to "help them out a bit".

At the time of writing, it has received £688 in under 24 hours.

"I just want to help them out a bit whilst going through this nightmare," posted Harley Ann.

"Money won't make the situation go away, but if it helps them have one less thing to worry about it will be worthwhile.

"If you are able to help out and donate, myself and the family would be so grateful.

"Keep up the fight Harvey. We all love you."

According to South Wales Police, "an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were both arrested for assault on Monday January 25th 2021. They are both on police bail whilst the case is under investigation."
