A crowd of roughly 100 people broke social distancing rules to set off fireworks in Plassey Square last night (5 November), say police.
Officers attended the scene shortly after 6:30pm, where they faced "verbal abuse and aggression". The crowd initially refused to disperse.
Additional officers were summoned, causing all persons to leave the area.
A South Wales Police Vale of Glamorgan spokesperson stated:
"We understand lockdown is difficult but please stay home and stay safe."
Under the Welsh Government's firebreak rules, attending a park is only permitted for the purpose of exercise.
Indoor and outdoor meetings with those from outside your household are forbidden.
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service had last week urged the public to avoid putting additional strain on public services "amidst a global pandemic."
