Anna and Tim complete 31-day walking challenge
Father and daughter fundraising duo Tim and Anna Musson have completed their 31-day walking challenge for the disability charity ValePlus.
Every day in March, they walked two miles from their home in Augusta Crescent, down to Penarth Pier, up through Alexandra Park and the town centre, and back again.
The community rallied behind them, so far raising £5,373 for the charity - a Barry-based day centre for disabled people.
They had set out to raise just £100.
"I like walking with my dad," Anna, who has down syndrome, told Nub News on her final walk.
"Thank you all for giving me money for Vale Plus. You are all fantastic."
Anna and Tim have been elevated to local hero status over the past month.
Penarth Rugby Football Club donated £300 and a number of anonymous donors donated as much as £100 each. In total, over 250 people have donated.
Anna's mother, Jane, is in a state of disbelief.
"I'm over the moon," she said. "What an incredible amount to raise in one month and it just shows you how kind and generous everyone is. It's mind-blowing.
"Everyone has been waving at Anna as they walk past and encouraging her."
Anna and Tim completed their walk as part of a fundraising drive for ValePlus, which Anna attends.
The charity has been hit by a lack of income due to the pandemic but has continued to offer remote services.
Attendees have been cycling, running, bouncing and, of course, walking to raise a total of over £7,000.
Sarah Philipps, Charity Administrator, said the funds will make a huge difference to the way the charity is able to function.
Off the back of the fundraising drive, they are arranging days out, designing ValePlus hoodies, buying Easter treats, organising discos and purchasing outdoor picnic tables.
"It has been incredible to be a part of this amazing team," said Sarah.
"We are so proud of Anna and her Tim. They have walked come rain or shine to help support ValePlus and we have been overwhelmed with the support she has received from the local community.
"We have loved reading the messages people have left for them on our local giving page, it has been amazing and heart-warming."
Anna says she will keep walking everyday even though the challenge is over.
Tim, however, is looking forward to a day off:
"Anna's very fit but I'm exhausted. I'll have a day off in bed tomorrow."
