Lecture: Extraordinary Exhibitions!

Where

The Turner House Penarth

When

15 Oct 2021

UNTIL Friday 15 October

To accompany The Turner House's first Open Call exhibition, art historian Morgan Haigh will be presenting a special lecture on the most famous, and infamous, exhibitions in the history of art.

This lecture documents how we have encountered art through time and how its display has been used to send messages to an audience. From the shock of the new to legendary artistic feuds, amazing spectacles to political statements, the impact of 'exhibitions' often changed the course of art and the way we view the world around us forever. Whether it's a personal, private show or an international extravaganza, displays of a single artwork or hundreds of paintings and sculptures, this is the story of the galleries, the artists, their work and us, the viewing public.

Morgan Haigh MA is an independent researcher and art Historian of The Courtauld Institute of Art, London. Morgan has guided tours at the National Gallery, Tate Gallery, National Gallery of Art Washington DC, and V&A. He recently appeared on the BBC's 'University Challenge'.
