CORONAVIRUS vaccinations began across Wales last week, with the Cardiff and the Vale Health Board administering its first round of inoculations at Cardiff and Vale Therapy Centre in Splott.

Vaccines will also be carried out at Holm View Leisure Centre in Barry and Pentwyn Leisure Centre, from January at the earliest, "in line with vaccination quantities expected through the UK government", says the health board.

Nia Catrin Thomson has raised £3,000 by walking from Penarth Pier to Penarth Head Park and back again 64 times in 26 hours - equivalent to the distance between Everest's base camp and summit.

The money will fund a mobility trike for Leon Thompson - a seven-year-old boy from Staffordshire with cerebral palsy - with a large surplus going towards his future treatment and care.

The annual 'Penarth in Bloom' Best Decorated Christmas Tree competition has been awarded to Osmond Drake Opticians.

The winner's certificate and Christmas wreath were gifted by Town Mayor and competition Judge, Cllr Mark Wilson, who loved the hand crocheted 'Partridge in a Pear Tree – Tree' and a 'French Hens Tree' to match this year's theme of the 12 days of Christmas.

The community fruit garden in Wordsworth Park has been targeted by thieves just a week after the project began.

Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG), a local environmental group, had begun planting the community garden a fortnight ago after receiving a 'Fruit Garden Pack' from the charity Keep Wales Tidy.
