After a weekend lost due to a waterlogged pitch Old Penarthians returned to Division 3SE Central (B) action at home to Tonyrefail.

The final score was a draw 22-22. Old Pens did however score four tries and in so doing gained a bonus point giving them three league points to rise to fifth in the division.

The washed out weekend lead to sport pitches around Penarth being closed due to waterlogged grounds.

Rugby (October 5):

Dinas 1st XI travelled to Ebbw Vale with only a solitary win under their belt this term.

After winning the toss the Villagers elected to bat, and built a very respectable total of 253-8, largely centred around Curtis Wingren's 72.

Top of the table Vale CC travelled to Bryn Y Don on Saturday to play a Dinas 1st XI anchored at the bottom of the league.

Current form suggested there was only one likely outcome, and so it proved.

The 1sts's torrid 2019 season continued on Saturday as they went down by 8 wickets to local rivals Sully Centurions at Burnham Avenue.

Despite heavy rain in the days before, the pitch was reasonably dry and Curtis Wingren, the fifth player taking the 1st XI skipper's reins this season, expected Sully to bat but they chose to bowl.

A heavy defeat against Newport 3rds left Dinas detached at the bottom of Div 3 of South East Wales Cricket League.

Captain Stuart Jones decided to bat first but the track proved trickier than expected against a pacey Newport attack.

Dinas 1st's faced Tondu 2nd's at Bryn Y Don hoping to build on last week's win against Barry Athletic.

Such hopes looked unlikely as the Tondu openers compiled a 1st wicket partnership of 180 in 30 overs.

With an injury ravaged squad plus absentees Dinas Powys CC did remarkably well to get three teams on the pitch on Saturday.

The 1sts travelled to Monkswood, knowing a win would probably lift them out of the relegation zone.
