The popular Stanwell Road cafe Willmore's 1938 remains optimistic in the face of a potential local lockdown.
Coronavirus cases in the Vale are rising and surrounding counties have entered lockdown, causing Vale Council Leader Neil Moore to issue a "last chance" warning to residents.
But the cafe's co-owner, Matt Holland, has posted a message of resilience and positivity:
"As we head ever closer to localised restrictions people are asking what we will do this time. The answer is the same as before but with a greater understanding of what needs to be done to continue to be in business, support our local customers, community and key workers.
"We will go back to our previous business models that worked. Adapt and overcome whatever it throws at us this time. We won't give up and leave you. We will serve good food and coffee as long as we safely can here at Willmore's or to your door.
"New outside heating is being fitted next week and more. Watch out for our hot Christmas platters coming soon etc. The list of ideas goes on and on. Thank you for all your continued support."
The cafe was widely praised for its community outreach programmes during lockdown.
They delivered food and supplies to Llandough Hospital, Marie Curie Hospice and the District Nursing Service with the support of other local businesses who sponsored the cause and residents who donated via a JustGiving page.
"We spoke to the medical staff and said 'what do you want, guys?' and they were saying: 'can you get stuff for the patients?'," Matt told Nub News.
"It was mental - It really blew our minds how selfless people could be. So we started delivering flannels, underwear, nightgowns, toothbrushes and all that, because patients couldn't have visitors bringing that stuff in.
"I think we wanted to put positive messages out there. Right at the beginning it was very negative but we wanted to give a positive message - communities will come together.
"Penarth is a fantastic town so people will support you."
Willmore's, ran by Matt and his partner Charlotte Court, also displayed extraordinary commercial ingenuity during the first wave of the crisis.
"It was obviously tough, especially because we do lots of catering, which totally stopped. But we like to think we were pretty inventive - delivering batch meals, father's day platters and cream teas, that sort of thing."
Matt says he and the team are ready for the potential renewal of intense coronavirus restrictions.
"We did it before so we will find a way to do it again. I think we're in a better position now because we understand it better. Last time it felt like you had to reinvent the wheel everyday.
"If the whole country or just the Vale goes into lockdown, we'll just go back to our contingency plan - lots of deliveries.
"We've got a good team. If we can all stay together and stay positive then I think we can get through it."
