A local mother and daughter have been collecting toiletries and pyjamas from residents in Penarth, Sully and surrounding areas to deliver to patients in Llandough hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently, visitors are not allowed into Llandough or UHW hospital due to the risk of the coronavirus spreading.

Marian Key, who works at Llandough hospital, enlisted the help of her daughter, Rebecca, to gather donations of the essential items.

Rebecca O'Brien said: ''My mum Marian Key is an ATO (Assistant Technical Officer) in the Pharmacy at Llandough hospital.

''She has been hearing that they are absolutely desperate for toiletries and PJs due to there being no visitors to the hospital.

''She asked me to put a shout on FB and has been collecting everything to take into work with her. She has received so much.

''The toiletries (the photo in the garden) all came from a message on the Sully village hub and were all dropped off by Sully residents.

''The PJs and some books and toiletries were all dropped off through the Helping Hands group to Foxy's Deli where I collected them from.''

Sian Foxy offered up the well-known deli as a drop-off location for supplies.

''Everything was taken to the hospital today and they are really pleased.

''My mum told me that all the staff at patients at Llandough hospital are eternally grateful and it's been a huge help.''

The community has come together in so many fantastic ways in Penarth and surrounding areas and this is just one example of how quickly residents have responded to help out.
