Litter Issues Continue to Plague Penarth's Parks and Outdoor Spaces
Litter issues have been cited across the Penarth area, especially in local parks and by the seaside, and residents today have expressed their concerns over the way that these areas are being treated.
With lockdown rules easing and the sunny weather gracing the town, it is unsurprising that local residents are flocking to these outdoor spaces.
However, the issue of litter has become increasingly problematic.
Local resident Simon Glover said: ''Please can I ask that if you have or know of children (or some adults) using the parks in Penarth that you hammer home the message to take their litter with them or at least bag it up and put near the bin.
"It doesn't seem right to me that my son (5 years old) and I have cleaned the fields at the Old Pens three times during lockdown but we are willing to do it to keep it tidy.
"I went out this morning early to clear up the remnants of last nights youths but was beaten to it by Nick from the council who has to do this in all Penarth parks every day!
"The photos are yesterday's litter from the Old Pens fields (not in the bins).
"It's quite simply not acceptable. Please educate your children, friends and others to take their rubbish away. I recognise some of the children but won't name and shame at this stage as this is a group problem, not individual.
"We live in such a lovely town, let's try and work together to keep it clean please it really isn't asking much is it?"
Today, Sian Morgan also took pictures of the rubbish left in Cosmeston this morning.
She said: ''What is the matter with some people? Why trash somewhere/anywhere that gives so much enjoyment to others? Why leave dangerous items that kill our local wildlife? I despair.
"There was one dog walker picking broken glass and the little laughing gas canisters out of the water... loads of them. Plastic bags everywhere."
Today Penarth Town Council have reminded visitors at Penarth Cemetery that they must take their rubbish home with them or use the two communal bins located at each entrance after finding litter.
They said: ''If rubbish continues to be dumped in the cemetery we may need to consider returning to reduced opening hours, due to the increased risk of cross-contamination."
