It has been said so often that it's become a cliche: "I took up photography in lockdown".
But it's true. As life ground to a standstill and our yearning for the outdoors peaked, legions of us used our allotted daily exercise sessions to explore this accessible modern artform.
Local social media pages have been flooded with photographs of Penarth Pier, Alexandra Park and St Augustine's Church - and many of them are very good.
Only one, however, has won a national award...
"Penarth Pier water like a millpond at high tide" by Susan Lyons.
It won 'Best Overall Best Photograph' in a UK-wide competition run by Rest Less, a digital community for the over-50s.
At first glance, for Penarth residents, the scene is perhaps more familiar than it is remarkable.
Only on closer inspection is the shot's magic is revealed.
The way the shimmering surface of the Bristol Channel blends effortlessly into a sky penetrated by the rusty facade of Penarth's most iconic landmark... it's beautiful.
Susan explains the photo's origins to Nub News:
"I am a property lawyer my head office is in Guildford, but I work remotely from home on Pembroke Terrace with a wonderful view over the Bay.
"In my dreams I would love to be out and about all day taking pics rather than sitting at a screen!
"I entered the competition which was on a website/newsletter for people over 50 giving ideas for career changes hobbies courses and jobs for older people..."
The competition featured various other categories, including 'Best Floral Photograph', 'Best Sunrise or Sunset Photograph' and 'Best Wildlife Photograph'.
But Susan's snap beat them all!
"I thought 'Gosh' because older people don't swear," Susan continued.
"I was delighted with myself never won anything before in my life (apart from the time my 14 year old boyfriend rigged the scout fair raffle and I won the box of chocolates).
"It wasn't a prize just a fleeting online fame but it was a real boost during lockdown and nice for the Dear Pier to get national recognition."
If you think you've taken a better lockdown snap, please send it in!
