A community group has set up a Crowdfunder page with a target of £3,000 to design an eco-garden at Penarth Library.

Friends of Penarth Library would like to pave the central area of the garden and erect a fence so that the area can be used for various activities, such as storytimes, events, school visits and other library functions.

Once the central area of the garden is paved, the group is planning to purchase bee and butterfly plants for the shrub beds, a weather station for people to monitor Penarth weather trends, and seating for children using the area.

The group have until March 28 to raise the money.

Christine Latham, a member of the Friends of Penarth Library group, said: "During the pandemic, the library was unable to hold its storytime and various children's activities.

"The creation of an outdoor area would mean these could once again take place without having to move to the park or the pier if further restrictions became necessary."

The group would also like to install birdhouses with cameras in the hope birds will raise chicks in them.

The Friends of Penarth Library group was founded in 2015 and continue to raise funds for the library by hosting regular cake, plant, book, and craft sales.
