The Vale of Glamorgan Council has published a map depicting planned routes for its "Active Travel Network" - a project "that allows for walking and cycling to become the most natural and normal way of getting about for local journeys".

The local authority recently held a consultation on the plans to upgrade existing routes for walking and cycling for everyday journeys and develop additional ones.

Almost 650 people responded, making 4640 contributions which "helped shape the plans".

Working with Sustrans Cymru, the Vale of Glamorgan Council have considered the comments and have drafted route plans.

The public is now being invited to view the proposed routes and to give feedback on whether the proposed future network is likely to improve the area.

The plans include the following routes:

- A bridge linking the Esplanade the Marina/Barrage area - Walking and Cycling

- The Esplanade - Walking and Cycling

- Windsor Road - Cycling on one side. Walking the other.

- Cliff Walk - Walking Only

- Albert Crescent/St Augustine's Place - Cycling Only

Many of the proposed routes have already received varied feedback.

This is the second stage of the consultation, which will be open until April 2021.

The third and final stage will run from July until the end of the year. It will consider the feedback of the first two rounds of consultation. After this, the final network map will be submitted to Welsh Government for approval.

Funding will be sought from a number of areas, including Welsh Government and sustainable transport development contributions.
