Dinas Powys Cricket Club have recently raised over £2000 to support the club and Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff by participating in the 'Active April' exercise challenge.

Over 50 participants joined in with the fundraiser aiming to run, walk and cycle 3000 miles across the month as a collective – the distance of Route 66 in America.

The team surpassed their target in just 10 days and ended the challenge on an outstanding 8772 miles having been greatly encouraged by all the kind donations received meaning both causes will receive £1060 each.

Organiser Red Todd-Bennett & Geoff Colley were able to visit Velindre Cancer Centre to present them with the cheque, which is hoped will help them continue to provide above-and-beyond, specialist cancer care which late club stalwart, Peter Colley received. The club has lost one of its great characters and thoughts continue to be with brothers Geoff, Adrian and family.

With its share of the funds raised the club plan to refresh some of the grounds equipment to ensure they can continue to prepare a quality, safe environment to play cricket at their spiritual home, The Common. The club would like to say a big thank you to all participants, sponsors and supporters for making the fundraiser such a success and supporting two fantastic causes.

On the pitch the poor weather put pay to both the 1XI & 2XI fixtures last weekend but the Common's micro-climate allowed the 3XI fixture against Bay Dragons 2XI to go ahead. Dinas were able to bowl the opposition out for just 97 and chased it down with minimal fuss to win by 8 wickets.

Skipper and 'most valuable player' this season (certainly in his eyes), Gareth Storey stole the show again taking 5-14 with the ball and making excellent use of the short leg-side boundary for his top score of 44 with the bat.

After a wet and windy May, we all hope the weather improves to allow a full set of fixtures to take place next weekend.
